Bill Dal Porto's Legacy
A Proud History of Alameda's Premier Youth Development Organization Since 1949
Our work took root when a local Alameda businessman decided to step up and help the young boys he saw playing in the street. Using his garage as a “clubhouse”, he began inviting the boys to participate in constructive and engaging activities, rechanneling their energy and curiosity into critical thinking and collaborative projects.
75 years later, and our remarkable staff supports hundreds of youth and teens in Alameda every week – young people who deserve the skill-building opportunities and positive mentorship they receive at our Club. Each day we serve our kids with the belief that Imagination Blooms HERE.
A Gift That Will Change Lives for Generations
For thirty years, Bill Dal Porto has shown up for the young people of Alameda…and he has no intention of stopping.
Whether calling strikes behind home plate, coaching from the dugout, or guiding strategy around the boardroom table, Bill's commitment to youth development has been the throughline of three remarkable decades alongside the Alameda Boys & Girls Club. Today, as a proud member of the Kids for Life legacy society, that commitment will echo far beyond his lifetime.
A Familiar Face, A Steadfast Heart
Bill Dal Porto is the kind of supporter every community organization hopes to find. His relationship with the Alameda Boys & Girls Club began not with a check, but with his time, his voice, and his presence on the field. Bill’s hands-on dedication naturally extended into the Club's organizational life. As a Board member, Bill helped shape the direction of the Club during some of its most pivotal years, none more significant than the campaign to build what is now the Club's 25,000 square foot home. Outgrowing the original facility inside Alameda's Esperanza Housing complex was a challenge that required vision, perseverance, and no small amount of fundraising muscle. Bill brought all three.
In His Own Words
"The Alameda Boys & Girls Club has been a big part of my life for thirty years, and youth development has always been at the heart of that. When I think about what we've built together, the relationships, the building, the kids we've reached, I want to make sure that work continues long after any of us are gone. This gift is my way of saying: I believe in what this Club can still become." — Bill Dal Porto, Kids for Life Member
A Foundation Built for the Future
Among Bill's fondest memories is the Founders Dinner held at Asena Restaurant, an evening that brought together fellow legacy donors to celebrate their most enduring gift. It was, in Bill's words, the epitome of tireless advocacy made visible.
That spirit of possibility is exactly what fuels his hope for the Club's next chapter.
With teenage enrollment growing and the demand for age-appropriate programming at an all-time high, Bill has a clear vision for what the future could hold. He hopes that legacy gifts like his will one day make it possible for the Alameda Boys & Girls Club to open a standalone, state-of-the-art Teen Center, a dedicated space where older youth can access the mentorship, career readiness tools, and safe community they deserve.
The Alameda Boys & Girls Club serves over 1,700 young people annually across its programs, with teens representing one of the fastest-growing segments of members seeking Club support. Research consistently shows that quality after-school programs reduce risky behaviors and increase graduation rates, making investments like Bill's far more than generous.
